Acetic acid is a colorless, water miscible liquid, produced by International Acetyl Company (IAC), an affiliate of Sipchem from Nov. 2009, with production capacity of 400,000 metric tons per annum (mtpa).
Acetic acid is used as a feedstock in the production of a range of other important chemicals. The largest single use is in the manufacture of vinyl acetate, followed by acetic anhydride and ester production. Acetic acid is also used to produce a wide range of inorganic salts (e.g. sodium acetate, used as food preservative).
