1,2-Dichloroethane (commonly known as ethylene dichloride - EDC)

Approximately 95% of the world’s production of EDC is used in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) which is in turn used to manufacture polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is a versatile polymer used in a wide variety of applications in the construction, health care, electronic and automotive sectors, ranging from piping and cable insulation to windshield components.
