Applications
Methanol is used in manufacturing a wide variety of chemical products, such as formaldehyde and Acetic Acid. Methanol as a hydrogen carrier is being considered for fuel cell application, and as an alternate fuel. Methanol was known as wood alcohol, because it was originally produced as a byproduct of the distillation of wood.
Technology
IMC operates proven steam methane reforming and methanol synthesis technology licensed by Jacobs Engineering UK Limited (Jacobs). The Plant also incorporates a range of process proven proprietary technologies including Johnson Matthey catalyst systems (included in approximately 60% of worldwide methanol production capacity) and a Methanol Casale S.A. Axial Radial Converter (ARC).
Marketing
JAMC, which is a shareholder of IMC, markets about 80% of the Company Methanol output outside the Middle East, whereas the Company is marketing the remaining balance in the Middle East.
